Nadhim Zahawi, the MP for Stratford on Avon and member of the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit, has today expressed concern that the Government’s planning reforms are causing ‘physical harm’ to our countryside, which is under ‘intense attack’ from ‘rapacious developers’ – as reported in the Daily Telegraph. Mr Zahawi warns that this could be ‘the defining legacy of this Government’. Zahawi and other MPs debated the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) with Planning Minister Nick Boles in Parliament yesterday.
The National Trust has continued to raise concerns about the implementation of the NPPF. Last month, we warned that half of English councils with Green Belt land are preparing to allocate some of it for development ahead of brownfield sites.
